Colorful tights, mini skirts and geometric hairstyles: Mary Quant's creations shaped an entire generation.

As the creator of the mini skirt, Mary Quant has written herself into the fashion history books of the 20th century, in February 2019 the designer celebrated her 85th birthday. Now the V&A is dedicating an exhibition to her that focuses on the period between 1955 and 1975, the years in which she made her greatest impact. Quant, from her boutique Bazaar, stamped her mark on the fashion of an entire generation and the look of Swinging London with the mini skirt worn with colourful tights, PVC raincoats and tailored trousers.

The museum not only draws on its own resources, the largest public collection of Quant’s pieces, but also launched a nationwide appeal for privately owned clothing. As a result, 35 items have been accepted into the exhibition, and are shown alongside the personal stories and photos of women in their favourite clothes.
